June is National Migraine Awareness Month – a month dedicated to increasing migraine visibility. Often times, migraines are confused with headaches, however, migraines are more severe and more debilitating than a normal headache and can even occur without a headache. Migraines are often accompanied with extreme sensitivity to light, nausea, blurred vision, and even vomiting. Migraine attacks can last hours or even days, having an extreme effect on a patient’s life. Even though little is known about the root causes of migraines, genetics play a major role in whether or not a patient is a migraine sufferer. Furthermore, there are several factors that can trigger an attack. Stress, bright lights, changes in sleep pattern, hormonal changes in women, certain medications, physical activity, among others, can bring on a migraine.
Migraines affect 37 million people in the United States alone. This month, we are helping spread awareness for patients to find relief from this debilitating disease!
